It’s been rightfully called the biggest fight of the Summer, and possibly the entirety of 2019: Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman for the Welterweight Championship of the World is just days away, and the aniticipation continues to grow as WBA (Regular) Welterweight Champion/8-division champ Pacquiao prepares to challenge WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion Keith Thurman in Las Vegas Saturday night live on Fite TV pay-per-view.
The entire world is ready for the main event, but are you ready for the undercard? Well, if you’re not, this writer suggests that you get ready in a hurry, because the undercard bouts we will see at the MGM Grand Garden Arena features a group of highly talented fighters including several former world champions.
In the opening Fite TV pay-per-view bout, undefeated former WBC/Ring Bantamweight World Champion Luis Nery will go one on one with Juan Carlos Payano who himself is the former WBA (Super) Bantamweight Champion. This is a battle of two guys who are looking to reclaim their star status on boxing’s biggest stage of the Summer as 2 former champions (1 of which is still undefeated) look to impress fans and boxing promoters as more than likely the winner may be in line for a future title opportunity.
Next, the once-defeated former IBF Light Welterweight Champion of the World Sergey Lipinets faces the challenge of a man who has had big fights against former champs Adrien “the Problem” Broner, Lucas Matthysse, and others… the well seasoned veteran John Molina, Jr. Molina’s 38 fight resume includes the WBC-NABO lightweight title and numerous world championship opportunities. July 20th, will be Molina’s chance to prove himself once more against a highly skilled former world title holder in Lipinets, who is looking for a victory to set himself up for a chance to regain a world title in late 2019 or early 2020.
The final undercard of the evening is a great matchup between Omar Figueroa Jr. (the former WBC lightweight champion champ) vs. Yordenis Ugas who had a hard-fought split decision loss to WBC Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter this past March). The stage is set for these two fighters as they will enter the squared circle just before the main event, and as Omar attempts to improve his undefeated record and Yordenis tries to get right back into the world title hunt, both men have the opportunity of a lifetime in Las Vegas to remind the world of who they are and what their worth is in what is arguably Boxing’s most talented division.
*July 20th will be an opportunity for former WBC lightweight title holder Omar Figueroa Jr., former WBC Bantamweight title holder Luis Nery, former IBF light-welterweight title holder Sergey Lipinets, and others to show the world their talents live on the grand stage of the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Fite TV Pay-Per-View.*
It’s a night of former world champions and challengers as well as a night of the welterweights on July 20th. Two awesome welterweight battles and a bantamweight fight will be the lead in stage-setters Pacquiao vs. Thurman, and for all the undercard competitors, it’s a chance to steal the show on a night the entire boxing world will be watching.
These fights will be broadcasted on Fite TV/ Fox Pay-Per-View
